Best food in country pubs
Many people stop by at a country pub, perhaps when they are out walking in the area, for a bite to eat. While different pubs will obviously have different menus, there are classics that you would find in most pub establishments in the UK. These delicious meals might include the following.
Bangers and mash
Aptly named bangers and mash, this is a very popular dish that is simple, filling and delicious. This is usually made up of sausages, mashed potato, peas and gravy. You will struggle to find somebody in the UK who has not tried bangers and mash.
Fish, chips and mushy peas
British pubs have been taking on this “fish and chip shop” classic for a while now, often putting their own spin on the dish depending on the atmosphere of the particular pub. The meal involves delicious home made chips, juicy fish in batter, mushy peas and not forgetting some tartar sauce to make it come together beautifully. This is a meal that will leave your mouth watering.
Chicken tikka masala
Although an Indian dish, this is very popular to eat in Britain. If you are spending the evening in a pub, what better to order than chicken tikka masala? This medium-spiced curry is usually sold with rice but many UK pubs will do “half and half”, giving you half rice and half chips. Accompaniments including onion bhaji and poppadoms might also be included.
Traditionally eaten on a Sunday but available every day of the week in most pubs is probably the most British dish you can eat, roast dinner of course. This is made up of roast beef/pork/chicken/lamb/vegetarian option, served with mashed potatoes, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, vegetables and heaps of gravy. A very scrumptious meal that is sure to keep you full all day long.
